2001 civic whirring sound at pre-ignition...Fuel pump priming itself?

Hi Folks,

I have a question.  On my 2001 civic, when I first turn on the key to
the accessory position (but not actually start the car), I hear a
clicking or whirring sound coming from somewhere.  However, it goes
away son after and everything is fine?  Is that the fuel pump priming
itself?  I hear the same sound immediately after I turn off the
ignition.  On my Mustang, I remember I heard a similar sound and it was
fine.

Am I just being anal or is this something to worry about?

I should mention that the yellow fuel pump DOES NOT light up at all
afterwards to warn of an error.

Cheers,
Derek

Yes. The noise will go for 2 seconds, then turn off.

In fact it's a good idea to let the pump run, then turn off, making sure
fuel pressure is more likely at maximum for quicker starts.

I find it also helps to let the car sit for an additional five seconds or
so before actually engaging the starter. This tends to result in much
quicker starts in my car.

I try to catch it at 1 1/2 seconds before the pump turns off.  Probably
not good for the pump to cycle off unnecessarily?

Perhaps your injectors are leaking just a little, and this is resulting
in a somewhat richer mix?  As I recall, your engine has quite a few
miles?

It's done this since new, basically, and it's never changed.

And yes, the engine now has 250,200 miles as of today. The injectors are
original.
