I went to the dealer this week to get some repairs done on my 97 Accord. Here's what they charged: 4 Michelin Harmony tires: 4x117 = $468 cat converter heat shields: $190 front engine mount: $195 front brake pads and "machine the rotors": $300 adjust rear brakes: $60 They also said changing the timing belt would cost $810, but they didn't have time to do that and the other stuff, so I didn't have it done. I think they said that price would include inspection of the water pump and seals and whatever else is associated with a timing belt change, but probably wouldn't include the replacements for those if they are necessary. I live in a suburb of DC. One should pay big bucks to get a Dealership, and most of the money they make are from service. All these prices reflect the hourly rate of Honda service -- which varies from $70/hour to $100, depending on where you live. Nothing surprises me anymore. The first time I had my velocity joints/shafts replaced, I called the dealership. They were $600 ...EACH!! Say what!? I called my fave parts house. Only $120 ...A PAIR! Agreed. OEM inserts will last a couple 2-3 seasons while those Walmart cheapos are lucky to make it through one. Also, aftermarket blades (the frame) are a major no-no. I bought some non-oem blades, once, the blade and rubber together being cheaper than oem inserts, alone. Major mistake! While the blade articulations were made of solid plastic and looked good, there were no spaces/holes between each segment. At speed (above 60mph), the solid plastic blades acted like air damns and the wipers would literally lift off the windsheild resulting in no wiper action at all. It cost me big bucks to buy new oem blades/inserts. nb |
