its time to get brakes but what do i get? all web sites i've seen sell
ceramic, semi-metallic, and organic. each one says if you have one only use
it. ex. organic only use organic. but i dont know what kind i have, the
local dealership says they only sell "one kind" and when i ask what kind it
is the repeat, "one kind". its a 99 civic ex 4-dr, any help would be greatly
appreciated!!

just buy OEM from the dealer, they're $40-50 and will make your rotors last
much longer.  and they only have one kind.

I put non-OEM pads on my 98 civic, and ruined the rotors within 3 months.  I
have definitely learned my lesson.

Just backing up what TL said: OEM brakes (which is what your dealer most
likely is offering you) are nearly the same cost as any other brake pads you
could buy. If you buy any pads advertised as "long life," what you're really
getting are pads that last long but, because they're so hard, they shorten
the rotor life.

One can also buy OEM  pads online. See for example www.slhonda.com . I am
very pleased with its service.

Hi,

On my 2000 Civic SiR I used ceramic brake pad.   Instead of getting black
brake dust on my rims, I just get white ceramic dust.   Plus the ceramic
dust is a lot easier to clean off.  Ceramic brake pads cost a bit more than
OEM.

oem give maximum disk life, have good fade resistance, and minimum brake
dust.  stick with oem.

My mechanic buys OEM's and istalls them for me.

Goddam dust is everywhere, but they work great, and my rotors are fine.
