I have  a J reg Honda Concerto 1600i. Recently the ALB warning light
has come on shortly after setting off. If I stopped the engine and
re-started it would for a while go off as normal but now it is always
permanently on shortly after setting off. I have noticed that there is
no longer a noise happening after I start the engine (I beleive this is
the ALB pump gaining pressure?)Can anyone help or give advice on why
this might be?

When the light is on, it means the system is off, so there will be no noise
whenever the light is on.  There should be a way to make it blink out an
error code on the warning light.  On the American models, you do it be
shorting the two pins in the SCS connector and turning the ignition to "run"
without starting the engine.

The symptom you describe, with the light coming on shortly after driving off
& after hearing it try to pressurize several times, usually indicates that
the system is no longer able to maintain pressure.  If this is the case, the
fix is a new unit.

Someone more familiar with the Concerto will have to weigh in with
specifics.

Thanks for that advice.

If you sat in the drive and just idle the car, will you hear the pump
run at all? The fact that your light comes on only after moving the
vehicle often means one of the wheel sensors isn't 'checking in'.
Inspect the underside of your car to be sure the tone rings aren't
filthy with grease / dirt. They are at the outer ends of your (front)
drive shafts, against where the wheel bearings are housed. The rear ones
may be hidden from sight.
Always mention the year and mileage of the vehicle . . . helps us
foreigners equate it to something we can picture over here. :-)

If I just sit in the car with the engine running(from first ignition)
there is no ALB light on. It only comes on after I've got into motion
and then stays on. At no point can I hear the pump making a noise. By
the way, the year of manufacture is 1991/2 and it has done 140,000
miles! Thanks for the tip about sensors, I will check them out.

========================

The fact that you hear nothing would indicate the pump might be dead or
the fuse blown because the pump started pulling too much current. Better
check the fuses in the ABS fusebox.
