Lately my civic has started losing power, getting increasingly worse
gas mileage, and occassionally making a rumbling noise (especially when
it's raining). Most of my research has led me to believe that there's
a problem with my catalytic converter. So, 2 questions:
1. For those who know far more than I do, does it sound like a CC
problem?
2. Do you know how much this costs to fix?
Being a woman in my 20s, I want to be armed with all the necessary
information when I take it to a mechanic.
THanks.

What year is your Civic?
How many miles on it?
Any "Check Engine" lights?
Ever had the oxygen sensor replaced?
Can you comment on the maintenance history of this Civic? E.g. how old are
the spark plugs, ignition wires, and distributor cap? Have you done oil
changes regularly? Ever had the PCV valve replaced? Replaced air and fuel
filters regularly, per the maintenance schedule?

If your cat is bad, then your o2 sensor is probably bad. you can have your
exhaust tested for back pressure.

No.

What year Civic? What model? Has the Check Engine light ever come on? These
are critically important.
