Hello,

I was wondering which of the aftermarket fuel additives are best for
cleaning the fuel injectors in a 2005 Honda Accord EX automatic? So far I
have tried the gumout extra concentrated and it seemed okay. I think it was
a carb/fuel injector cleaner. Does anyone know if this was a good idea or if
there are other products more suited for the accord? I am considering
products like drygas liquids and fuel injector cleaners.

Thanks,
Al

Chevron Techron. About $12 for the big bottle at most places in the US.

It's the same famed substance Chevron puts in the gas at their filling
stations.

Hey Tegger, any idea where to get this stuff in Canada?  I remember
seeing it years ago, but no sign of it since then.

Wal-Mart used to carry it, but no more.
I use Redline now, from CTC.

Funny. Wal-Mart still carries Chevron Techron in the United States. Six U.S.
dollars a bottle, which is one treatment on most Hondas.

I am pretty sure most Auto parts emporiums in the U.S. carry it. Worth
checking the same in Canada.

I've checked in just about every parts store I could think of in
Ottawa, and no sign of it anywhere.

Does anyone know how the RedLine or Motul injector cleaners compare to
Techron?

I have heard BG44K is also a good cleaner.  A bit more expensive however.
Anyone have experience with this one?

shouldnt need anything, if youre using "top tier" gas from a reputable
station, like chevron, texaco, union 76.

saving a few cents a gallon on gas and then spending $10 on fuel system
additives doesnt make sense. however, if you think you DO have a
problem, supposedly chevron techron or techroline works well

Mike,

What do you consider "top tier" fuel, or what is the definition of "top tier"
fuel?

       Al,
Honda does not recommend the use of additives; fuel or otherwise.

Buy from a high volume (sales) fuel supplier.  Chevron does include their Techron
additive in all grades of their fuel.

Just stick with regular 87 octane.

Okay thanks for the feedback. I usually use Shell Gas or Sunoco gas, they
are available in my area, not the others that you mentioned. I get 87 octane
because it is what the manual says to use. Plus $2.09 is enough to spend a
gallon even though it came down! I'll have to look into the Chevron Techron
additive. When it gets really cold I'll put in the Drygas. Our winters
usually drop to about -10F in January with a wind-chill of -35F at times.
When it gets that cold I also use the yellow windshield wiper washer by
Prestone, so the wiper pumps don't freeze.
