2003 Accord EX Radio Display Lights

The display lights on my 03 Accord EX have dimmed to the point of no
visibility.  The radio and temp controls work perfectly, but I have to
guess what the display says unless I am in bright sunlight.  This seems to
be a common problem, and there is no solution I can see except for
replacement.  My vehicle is out of warranty, and it will cost me $1000 for
a new one at the dealer.  If anybody has any possible solutions, or
alternate methods of fixing this situation, I would love to hear them.

I think I read on this group that Honda is extending the warranty on
that problem.  You may have to contact the field office if your dealer
denies it.

That is a TSB (Technical Serive Bulletin) repair and should be fixed
FREE. I just had the exact same thing happen to me. Raise hell with
Honda Corp if the dealer doesn't fix it.

It is a very common problem.

Just because it's a TSB does NOT automatically make it a free repair (it's
not like a recall in that regard).  However, as has been mentioned in this
thread, this is one case where Honda has covered the cost for some owners.

Looking at previous messages on this subject, it looks like some have
been successful in getting Honda to at least pay for the parts by
filing a case with Honda.  There is a TSB on the problem. 04-027.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Someone sent me a pdf file of the service
bulletin, so I will take that with me to my dealer and raise hell until I
get a solution.  Thanks again to everybody for their help!
