CRV - aftermarket stereo + steering wheel controls

I have a 2005 CR-V (in Australia). It is the standard model (not
Sport). I am wondering about replacing the stereo with an aftermarket
one. (Actually, with a 5 year old  Sony CD player that I had in my
previous car.)

A couple of things - will the steering wheel controls work with the new
stereo? I believe the Sony has an interface for this but am not sure
whether there is such a thing as a cross-brand standard for this. What
type of interface does Honda use?

Secondly, the car user manual says that the alarm will be activated if
the readio is removed. Will removing the original radio and installing
a new one cause issues with the alarm?

TIA for any advice.

For the second question, there is a short to ground inside the Honda
stereo that tells the alarm the stereo is there. You'll have to tie that
pin to ground in the wiring harness adapter you use. There's some good
links if you sign and search over at Hondasuv.com. There was even a link
to a zip file for the 6-disk indash '04 stereo. Search first, ask if you
can't find it. Panasonic I think.
