Nick Vital - 03 Dec 2005 15:38 GMT does honda have an auto dimming rear view mirror with homelink in it? I'd just love to not have 2 garage door openers clipped to my visor.

Call Mazda and ask about the ones for the Mazda 6.

I was looking to get a honda one so I can just get it installed when I get my car this week. (it's also a lease, so I don't wanna put in aftermarket stuff unless A) honda doesn't have what I want, or B) its a LOT less money. it would also be nice to not have to install it)

My '01 EX has it built in, but not as part of the mirror.

Three buttons you can program.
Dr Nick - 04 Dec 2005 20:47 GMT > My '03 EX has Homelink in the overhead console. Three buttons you can > program. form what I see on hondas site, homelink onyl comes with the EX v6 model... thats pretty BS in my opinion. why do they take out all this stuff in the 4 cyl models? (homelink and VSA) I'm getting an EX-L with navi, I figure just because I want a more echonomical engine I shouldn't get less stuff with it as well...

According to http://automobiles.honda.com/models/specifications_descriptions.asp?ModelName=Ac cord+Sedan&Category=EX# , you need the 6-cylinder to have Homelink included.

I dont' understand why honda low balls the 4 cyl models, even the loaded one (no VSA, no brake assist, no homelink) I'm suprised 4 cyl's even have airbags, lol. "safety for everyone" yeah right, I think that quote was cut short from orignally being "safety for everyone who wants a V6 engine"

That does nothing to explain the lack of Homelink, but is a possibility.
Dr Nick - 04 Dec 2005 22:57 GMT > Well, keep in mind that there may be technical reasons for the lack of VSA > and brake assist on the 4-cylinder models. I think if they can do it, honda could as well. I would mind if I lived in a temperate climate, but living in new england, it would of been nice.

I never said it was an impossibility, just that there may be a technical issue. Maybe the way the Honda designed their I-4 could be problematic with Honda VSA and brake boost. Could be purely marketing. I wasn't making a definitive statement, just pointing out there may be some issue we're not aware of.

viperlars@yahoo.com - 05 Dec 2005 15:10 GMT I just ordered an 06 Accord EX-L and it did not come with home link. My wife has it in her Ody and it would be nice to have.
Anyone add it in after? What's the cost? Are there power wires in that area so that I could add one myself - possibly an after market?

Are there power wires in > that area so that I could add one myself - possibly an after market? how do you like the car? someone responded to my question in the Temple of VTEC forum and said www.collegehillshonda.com carries this part. I checked and they do, it's teh exact same on in the V6 models (apparently those DO come with homelink) and it looks like a pretty easy install. and it's less than 200 bucks.
viperlars@yahoo.com - 07 Dec 2005 02:10 GMT I don't have the car yet, but I've loved all my Hondas and Acuras. 200 bucks?. I think I'll just clip the remote to the visor.

Yeah, the Honda part will be expensive.
That's why you check Ebay for a better price. Or a junkyard. I got my $200 Homelink part for, let me think now....$20 plus shipping.

In the 98-02 models, it was simply a matter of replacing the overhead light console in my EX 4 cylinder with the overhead console from an EX 6 cylinder. The old one unscrewed--two screws--and unplugged, and the new one plugged right in. No extra wires, nothing. There's no magic to it.
Don't know how the 03 and up models do it.

Are there power wires in > that area so that I could add one myself - possibly an after market? i didnt like having my garage and gate remote sitting out and/or accessible, so i made my own "homelink".
took the covers off the 2 remotes, soldered 2-strand doorbell wire to the pushbutton contacts on the board. put both in ziplocks, duct taped together and tucked away under the hood. ran that line through a small gap in the firewall
switches are only accessible when ashtray is open. theyre side by side on the "roof" of the ashtray.

I think I'm skipping this right now unless I can find one cheap, 200 bucks seems steep for a garage door opener, lol. if I can find a wrecked V6 or find one on ebay I'll probably do it. form the install instructions I've seen it seems pretty simple. thanks
