For $20k, you get an Accord or a new 06 Civic.
I don't understand what is Honda's marketing strategy at this moment?
Are they giving all compact market to Corolla?
There was a price difference before 06 Civic cam out.
Now people are buying 06 Civic at retail which is about the same price as an
Accord's realistic sale price.
Are people really that desperate for the MPG difference to spend same money
to get a smaller car?
Someone give me a smart answer please, I am confused.

There's always been overlap between the Civic and Accord. In 2005, you
could get a Civic or Accord for $17K. So there's no change in market
strategy in terms of overlap between models.
06 Civic MSRP: 14.5K to 20.5K
06 Accord MSRP: 18.2K to 29.3K
05 Civic MSRP: 13.3K to 18.8K
05 Accord MSRP: 16.3K to 28.8K
> Are they giving all compact market to Corolla?
06 Corolla MSRP: 14.0K to 17.8K. This is a more legitimate question. I
guess Honda raised prices because of the redesign. I don't think 06
Corolla is a redesign, I'm sure Toyota will raise prices when they
redesign.

You did not figure in the "discount" factor.
06 Civic has little space for price negotiation, Accord does. That's what
makes these two models' sale price realistically close not the MSRP itslf.

Fine. But this "discount factor" applies to the 06 models as well as
the 05 models. So my point is that Honda's marketing model did not
change.

Sounds like they are comparing a top of the line Civic to a base Accord.
You need to compare similar trim levels.

>From what I saw on Top Gear, the Honda Jazz looks cool and practical.
I'm glad they're bringing it to the US.

harry,
Unless you're in the market, what does it matter if YOU "GET IT" or not?
Honda sales are up; so someone, at Honda, is guessing the market right, whether
you get it or not.

I noticed that when I bought my Civic. A fully loaded Civic, or a not
loaded Accord, close enough to the same price that it wouldn't really
matter in the length of time I keep a car.
There were Civics that were a lot cheaper, but I didn't want one of those.
I actually like the Civic better, though. I felt like the Accord was
smaller inside, which is silly, but the Civic seems open and spacious, by
comparison.
I also think the Civic (2003) looks better outside than the Accord.
