Car Forum / Honda Cars / February 200686 Integra Combination-Switch 'problem'
Hi all, I'm in Australia with an 86' Honda Integra (accura in USA?) and the wiper switch has 'gone west'. After calling around a few part shops, I'm told this is a common problem, and that switches in good condition are very hard to find. One shop says they have switches from 88 and 89 Integras. Anyone know if these will fit the 86? Thanks for the reply. By 'part shops', I did mean 'junk yard's (wreckers, dismantlers ..whatever you want to call them). My point was I have found one place that has 88/89 switches, but they are about an hour away. I was hoping to find out if they would suit the 86 before heading out there. Exact symptoms? The wipers no longer work unless the handle is 'wiggled', and then only sometimes. After exposing the switch (removing plastic covers) it looks like part of the wiper unit has split. cheers, dave PS: The 'junk yards' I called were the ones who made the point to me that these switches often failed, and were therefore hard to find. > Hi Jim, > [quoted text clipped - 41 lines] > PS: The 'junk yards' I called were the ones who made the point to me that > these switches often failed, and were therefore hard to find. sounds like the switch then. surf the junk yards. i've not tried it, but for my 89 civic, the switches [the stalks and their mounting into the central core] appear identical among several models/generations of different hondas. check and see what you can come up with. there are two screws that hold the stalk assembly onto the central core. once you've pulled all the electrics, removing those screws allow you to pull the stalk assembly [pull on the stalk, don't bend or twist] from the core. it's /much/ cheaper to buy that from a junk yard than it is to buy the whole core assembly.
