Hi All:

I'm getting ready to purchase an Accord LX-V6 it looks like.

The dealer I'm probably going to buy from only offers the Honda Care
extended warranty and doesn't offer any kind of dealership warranty.
This is fine.  Given the choice, I'd prefer the Honda Care one so that
I can have warranty work done at any location.

Are the Honda Care warranty prices set by Honda and not open for
negotiation?  Or is this something that you can negotiate with the
dealer on.

According to www.curryhondacare.com, the longest warranty plan for the
Accord LX-V6 is 8 years, 120k miles and no deductible.

The price given on that site is $1,255.  So would this be the charge
for the extended warranty no matter what dealer I buy from?  Or is
this a price that can be negotiated down with the dealer.

Thanks!
Drew

Before you put out the cash for an extended warranty on something as
reliable as a Honda, recognize that extended warranties are cash cows
for the dealership.  They probably make more money on the warranty
than they do on the car.  The reason is that few people are ever able
to use it because (1) nothing significant happens to the car, or (2)
the fine print excludes what you needed fixed.  Either way the dealer
wins.  There will always be those who say they were sure glad they had
it because the engine fell out while traveling down the freeway or
some such.  In my experience, and I'm sure the dealer's too, these are
few and far between.  In all the cars we have owned, I have never had
one, and never regretted it.  The one time I bought one on a motorhome
I have regretted it ever since.  The only time I needed it, they
weaseled out saying it wasn't covered.  I would stay far, far away
from extended warranties on anything, not just cars.

Thanks Dick :)

I was thinking that as well!  A couple of friends have said its just a
cash cow.  I'm still not sure!

The one advantage of an extended warranty is that it helps you sell the car
privately if you sell it while it still has a warranty left.  For that
reason I think it is worth it but only from the manufacturer and not a 3rd
party who may disappear.  8/120k zero deductible is the longest you can get.
Keep looking with www.google.com.  I think you will find a slightly lower
price.... maybe 150 cheaper.

I got 7/80 on a 05 Pilot EX for $750. They had quoted me $1100 I said
no. Then she got the manager he came over said -ok its the end of the
month so Im going to lower it the most I can to  $750.
