89 civic dx

I have a 89 civic when the motor is at normal temp and i stop the motor
feels like it wants to shut down when it is in gear. When i when i take it
out of gear it stops and idles fine. i have changed the plugs wires cap and
rotor. but it still happens anyone have any ideas as to what might because
this.

sounds like the clutch not disengaging properly - probably rust on the
input shaft spline interface.  suggest new clutch and make sure
everything is cleaned up probably with a little antisieze on reassembly.

sorry i forgot to say it has an automatic trans
