My Honda I just bought 116,000 miles from the internet, Seems to be a good
car, bought from a mechanic but as soon as I got home two hours away I
noticed something, it runs great except, its a 5-spd and when I take it
out of gear, rolling to a stop light, or slowing for a corner it will idle
low enough to almost die then jump to over a 1000 rpm for a second, this
guy has done alot of replacement and I am wondering if he had this problem
why it was not fixed, He did claim to do a lot of maint. and he got it from
a customer and fixed alot and sold it to me. I am taking it to a honest
mech locally to give me an opinion but the more opinions the better any
ideas? Parts he replaced, engine and oil seals, timing belt, water pump,
converted A/C, brakes, drums/rotors axels, motor mount and more I am
forgeting.

Many Hondas, including the '97 CR-V (automatic) do exactly the same
thing, because the computer kills the injectors while the car is
coasting to a stop. Your problem may be something else, however. Is it
injected? Have you run some injector cleaner (or Gasohol) thru it yet?

Does it do this even when the car has just been started? Or only after
driving over ten minutes? If after warmup, this is quite possibly a symptom
of a failing ignition coil.
I would also check everything listed at

Take the caveat about using OEM parts seriously. I base this on reading
here, elsewhere, and my own experience with my 91 Civic, on which I used to
be cheap for even basic parts, and thus ended up throwing good money after
bad. OEM all the way, for now. If your friend did not use OEM ignition wires
and plugs, in particular, IMO this is a big deal.
