I've got a '98 Accord, that had a problem with the heater control unit lamp.
My honda dealer pulled it out, didn't have a spare, so he put the old one
back in while we ordered parts. The old bulb worked for 1 evening then quit.
When the new bulbs came in, he replaced the old one, and the new bulb is
about 30% as bright as the others in the panel. Did the dealer get the wrong
bulb? Do I have a voltage problem in the unit? The lower left corner of the
LCD display has a black line starting to show, does this mean the display is
going bad? Anybody got any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

Al

There's a ton of Accord TSB's you can read through, and print for future
reference. A couple pertain to dash / AC control lighting.

Thanks, I checked there, and found some problems with the '03 and '04 audio
units, but nothing that applied to me.

I'm not much help here, unfortunately.

I wonder if the bulb that's 30% brighter doesn't have the little blue sock
over it like other dash light bulbs.

good pt. about the blue sock.  I just replaced my clock
bulb with a replacement that did not have the blue sock.
WOW is it bright.  Better than the alternative!

I'm afraid it is the new one that is weak. All of the other bulbs,(with
the blue sock?) are fine. I guess I'll look for a heater control panel from
a junk yard. That will replace the questionable LCD and the backlight
problem at the same time. The dealer wants $433 for a new one.
By the way, thanks for your page. It is a terrific reference. You have
gone a very long way toward defusing FUD. (Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt)
