David Wynne - 19 Mar 2006 21:19 GMT I have 1.4 basic model.
- Very good round town. Very nippy in all "close quarter" situations - Mine hardly ever goes over 30mph. Most trips less than 5 miles YET 41 mpg - Noisy on motorway - Not amazingly powerful at speed - Not so good on high speed motoring, that said VERY good in stop-start driving situations, so if you're a motorway traffic jam every day, you'll be fine. - Gearbox is amazing - Drive select (P - D - N - R lever, you know) is a bit vague; there's no gate on it and it's easy to slip into one of the weird low torque D options only to find out you're in it when you want to zip off :(. - (optional) Boot bags total waste of time - Roof mounting storage thing is quite nice, but not worth the money - Don't bother with those boot/shelf mats. They get in the way - Wish I'd got the automatic air temp option - Rear windscreen washer - wiper is poor but works - Quite slow to warm cabin in the morning - Mine's never been back to the dealer. Hooray! - Easy to keep clean - Stereo OK, but see note below... - Good to park / reverse - Kids like it - Will easily take 2 adults and 1 kid in back seat. - Totally easy to shuffle seats around. Hooray for that too. - Good leg room front and back. - Rear view mirror vibrates (worst case vibration found so far is Pink Floyd's "One of these days" when it gets to the on-off-on-off bit). Might need to avoid death metal too (but that's for a whole different reason) :). - Magic seats are just that; very clever - I'd recommend this car if you drive round town. It works.
HTH, regards, --- David

Last summer I replaced the head unit in my '93 Accord with an aftermarket Sony "Xplod" unit. When I was experimenting with the equalizer presets, my rear view mirror started to vibrate with the drum beats of many songs.
BTW, the headers of your post suggest that you are in the UK, correct? Thus, 41mpg is likely to be imperial gallons. Convert that to U.S. gallons and it works out to about 34mpg.
David Wynne - 19 Mar 2006 22:25 GMT Hi there,
> Is it possible you have the bass set rather high? Maybe, I'll look tomorrow. I don't think I've got any EQ set up though.
It also vibrates on certain road surfaces especially the "rumble zones" which are springing up on round abouts and pedestrian crossings. I notice that there's a little rubber bung thing wedged between the mirror stalk and the windscreen; looks like an 11th hour bodge to me!
> ... headers... suggest that you are in the UK Correct.
> and it works out to about 34mpg. I think you're correct. Is 34 mpg(US) good or bad? I used to have a Merc A160 which did 26 mpg (UK) round town and so I see the Jazz/Fit as a great improvement.

David Wynne - 19 Mar 2006 22:29 GMT Hi,
>> If yes..... how you liking it? > See my response in alt.autos.honda. My ISP does not carry this. Any chance you could post your response here please?

High Tech Misfit - 19 Mar 2006 23:42 GMT > Hi, > [quoted text clipped - 3 lines] > My ISP does not carry this. Any chance you could post your response here > please? I said to the OP that the Fit hadn't gone on sale in North America yet.
tww - 21 Mar 2006 01:31 GMT > I have 1.4 basic model. > [quoted text clipped - 33 lines] > --- > David Just the think one would need to dodge the vehicle of choice around here in mid GA -- a over large GMC or Ford SUV or dually running 90 mph down I 75.
jim - 13 May 2006 10:49 GMT >If yes..... how you liking it? Got mine April 29 - base model, manual transmission, storm silver metallic.
I like it just fine after 950 miles - quiet, roomy, good handling, adequate power, well-assembled;
Have taken it easy for breakin period; have had it up to 85 on Interstate and it seems stable and willing to go faster;
Gas mileage is phenomal so far: First tank 40.4 mpg Second tank 40.5 mpg Third tank - leisurely trip on rural roads to blue ridge mountains, trip on skyline drive, return on rural/interstate, used a/c about 1/3 of the time: 45 mpg!
Has lots of features to like: instruments radio layout cup holders magic seats great shifter feel lots of standard equipment good legroom/ comfort in all seats
a few minor peeves: speedo markings could be better- numbered only every 20 mph; hash marks for 5 mph intervals hard to see - takes extra mental processing to determine your speed - its not intuitive. Wide A-pillars block visibility. Long clutch travel with short engagement zone. Lots of storage places but none are lockable
Overall, very satisfied

Can you say about how much you paid?
post2google@yahoo.com - 13 May 2006 19:44 GMT The Wall Street Journal did a nice comparison based on test drives this week of the competing models, Fit, Yaru (really a Scion Xa) etc
The only knock they had on the Fit was a excessive amount of road noise. I think it was like 78db on the highway. The only other negative I've heard is the poor rear visibility, but jeez, have you sat in a 2006 Civic? The rear visibility is so bad that you might as well just remove the rear view mirror.
And lets face it, if the boneheads at Honda of America had continued selling a regular Civic Hatchback, we wouldn't be having this discussion! Losers.
As for the Scion Xa, it is pretty nice, but I'm not sure I can deal with this speedometer (for no good reason) being moved to the middle of the dash.

A-FRIGGIN-MEN I DON'T want four doors I WANT a hatchback I DON'T want a more expensive engine and a lot of crap telling everybody I bought the most powerful engine availible in a Civic. I DON'T want some funky shifter sticking out of the dashboard I just want a two door plus hatchback REGULAR Civic NO ABS (or the bill to fix an ABS black box after 5 years out of warranty for thousands of dollars. I bought a 2002 Civic coupe and my only regret is it isn't a hatchback My next car will have a hatchback, and if Honda will not offer it it will not be a Honda.

The Fit *is*, for all intents and purposes, the complete replacement for the Civic Hatchback.
What's wrong with four doors? Are you one of those manly rednecks who think two doors is cool, four doors is geeky and makes you look like a family man or sump'n?
ah1244@wayne.edu - 15 May 2006 22:24 GMT Amen to that! Even better, let's hope that Honda brings back that beauty called the CRX ..... which, way back in the late eighties/early nineties used to do 45-50 mpg without breaking a sweat! ...now, 15 years later, Honda is touting 40 mpg Civics....what a disgrace!
Steve Pankow - 16 May 2006 04:11 GMT Well, today's Civics would still be getting CRX mileage if federal regulations didn't require hundreds of extra pounds of airbags and structural safety improvements.
Elmo P. Shagnasty - 16 May 2006 08:11 GMT > Well, today's Civics would still be getting CRX mileage if federal > regulations didn't require hundreds of extra pounds of airbags and > structural safety improvements. In fact, go look at the weight of the Fit vs. the weight of, say, the 92 Civic Si.
The Civic Si had 125hp, the Fit 109--but the Fit is 200 pounds HEAVIER.
Wow.
pars - 17 May 2006 22:06 GMT The Fit has a small lightweight chassis that already designed to return a sporty ride. All it needs now is an engine with enough HP to complete the package.
The Fit could become as Legendary as the CRX if Honda could drop in a bigger engine, without seriously increase price, weight and maintain the car's handling dynamics. But wait a minuit, doesn't Europe already have the as per mentioned modification in the form of the Civic Type-R? However, the Type-R badge packs a huge premium.

Let's not get worked up about how "lightweight" the Fit is. It isn't. It's a pig.
DAB - 18 May 2006 10:28 GMT >> The Fit has a small lightweight chassis > > the Fit weights TWO HUNDRED POUNDS MORE than my 92 Civic Si. > > Let's not get worked up about how "lightweight" the Fit is. It isn't. > It's a pig. But it's a cute pig.
pars - 19 May 2006 05:40 GMT It's still lighter then the Celica and I doubt anyone alive would describe that car as being porky. 200lb isn't alot when you consider all the added safty equitment and the broader torque curve.

pars - 19 May 2006 05:16 GMT A 1.3 Turbo engine would out perform a mundane 1.5L engine. Drop in Turbo into the 1.5L and it'd put the Euro model to shame. Personaly, I'd steer clear of forced induction since it's more parts to maintane in the long run. However, if the 1.5L is not adiquate, Turbo/Supercharge is the next best thing (assuming a bigger engine is out of the question).
