Apologies The title should refer to year 20'01 model, not 1991 - thank
you to respondents who pointed this out my error - had brain
malfunction).  Thanks for the replies so far.

Here's the message again (with the proper subject title):

///////////

After an oil change, my trusty independent mechanic  told my wife that

1.  Radiator and heater hoses need to be replaced since the '01 Honda
Civic is now 5 years old :

$350.

2.  He says that the coolant system should be flushed from red to
green.  Red is bad, Green is good,  Red eats gaskets, he says.

$109.95.

3.  Power steering fluid is dirty and should be flushed -

$80

Good Advice from this chatboard:

Priceless.

i agree on flushing  "coolant and   power steering fluid"  as long as this mechanic uses Honda original fluid  "MAKE SURE  he does so"   its IMPORTANT!!!!!  or you"l be stuck later down the road replacing parts!  what i dont agree on is why he thinks you need a new radiater?    Hey.... if its not leaking tell him to leave it alone.!    honda rads last long time
