Find tools and generic manuals here. http://www.acsource.com Expect to do
some background reading, to find out how AC systems work, general principles
of working on them, etc.
The kits are fairly inexpensive. If you have a vacuum pump ($$$) and a set
of R134a gauges ($) then it should be pretty easy. The steps are as
follows:
Replace all O-rings.
Flush the system with a solvent intended for this use.
Evacuate the system.
Verify that it will hold a vacuum. Overnight is good. A couple of days is
better.
Install R134a compatible oil.
Charge the system with the correct amount of R134a refrigerant. There
should be a sticker under the hood, information in the owner's manual, or
something stating the correct amount to use.
Alternate plan:
Take a Mexican vacation.
"Por favor, ¿Dónde arreglan los acondicionadores de aire?"
Return to U.S., system fixed and charged with R12.
