Hi,
The car drives great with 167,000 miles on it, but I notice that when I
shift from "neutral" or "park" into "drive" or "reverse" there is this
a pause and then the engine lurches forward hard. When I shift between
the various drive gears there is no lurching. Seems to happen all the
time, no matter if the car has been running or starting cold.
It has served me well for a year, with no real problems at all, but I
am trying to sell it and want to make sure I am not giving someone else
a lemon.

Check the fluid level.  Change the fluid, replacing it with new "Honda
Genuine" automatic transmission fluid.
