I have a 01 civic and when the A/C is on water leaks on the passenger
floor.  I took it to the dealer they said that it was clogged and the
blew it clear.  It happed again and they said it was the same problem
and that parking near trees and bushes makes the problem worse.  It
happened a third time and i was told that this would continue to happen
and there was nothing that could be done about it and that eventually
the evaporator box would need to be replaced.  Is this true or can
something be done to prevent this???

Where do you live?  I had a lot of problems like this when I lived in
Redmond, WA and we had a huge Douglas fir in the front yard.  Anywhere you
parked, you would get some kind of plant debris in the air intake of your
vehicle.  If this is anything like my 1999 Civic, the air for the heater and
AC enters behind the hood.  Open the hood and you will see the intake.
There is a sort of screen on it, to keep the big pieces out.  Keep this area
clean of leaves and other debris, and you will help keep the AC drain from
clogging.

I don't know whether the evaporator box would need to be replaced, but if it
keeps filling up with water things can get pretty nasty in there.

If one is handy, a finer mesh screen can be added to prevent small
debris from entering the evaporator compartment.  Sort of like window
screen material.

You might try pulling the heater/AC fan under the passanger side of the
dash, and reaching in there to remove debris.  I have done this
successfully several times on various cars.  I know on some cars you have
to remove the glove box. You will have one electrical connector. Mark the
housing so you can put it back together correctly.  It was a very easy job
on my 95 Civic.  You may also have to find someone with a small hand to
assist reaching in?  Good luck.

thanks, I looked under the hood and yep the intake screen was covered
with debris.  So far I haven't had any problems agian. I would think
that the dealer would know to check that. Maybe just me?? Thanks again
