98 Accord V6 coupe w/ 16" wheels:

I have an extra rim and bought myself a nice used MXV4 for $20 to have
a sweet full-size-spare only to discover that it doesn't fit in the
well in the trunk.  DAMN!  is there any alternative that WILL fit in
the well in the trunk on this car?  thanks.

I did this with a 99 I4 Accord some years ago and it fit from a
circumference standpoint, but was too wide -- and raised the floor cover up
a couple of inches.  But, of course, that was a15 inch wheel.  I had no
difficulty with my wife's Pilot, on the other hand.

Yes, exactly.  When looking into the trunk the tire is "too tall" to
lay down in there.  Circumference is OK>
