I was able to put the bulb into the clock. The light came on... I then
put the headlights on to see if the light on the clock would work,I
noticed that when I put the headlights on the light on the clock goes
dimmer....is that suppose to be like that? I thought when you would put
headlights on the light would go brighter, as one would need more light
to see the time....Again, with no headlights on, light is on clock,
with headlights light is on, but dimmer

It is normal for the dash lights to dim when you turn on the headlamps
so it won't blind you at night. Don't remember how my '99 worked, but
on my '03 you can turn the odometer reset knob and turn the dash lamps
back to normal if you have the headlamps on during the day time.

At night it's darker, remember? If the clock light were *brighter* in the
dark, it would appear TOO bright within the surrounding blackness, and so
therefore they dim the clock. Honda has done this since at least 1990.
