I have a 2001 Accord LX-V6 with 92k miles on it. The LCD odometer
keeps dropping out so that only parts of the elements in the numbers
show and the rest are empty. It's now you see it now you don't as I
drive down the road.
If I press on either side of the odometer the numbers come back,
sometimes for a little while, sometimes only until I release pressure
on the panel where the odometer is.
The dealer says I need a new instrument cluster ($500!). I replaced
the fuse to the instrument cluster but that made no difference.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this without having to spend
$500? I'd live with it except that I want to trade in the car later
this fall and I'd like the problem to be gone for obvious reasons.
Thanks!
George

As a general comment and knowing nothing else about it, this is a dead
giveaway that the connector to the LCD module has gotten loose. I would
be trying to find out how to get in there and push on the connector.

Yikes, if that's the case I'll need a really skinny, flexible hand and
x-ray vision . . . :|

It wouldn't. Either the cluster gets power or it doesn't.

You mean replace the instrument cluster myself? I think that's way
beyond my skill level . . . :(

On most Hondas, it's 6 screws to remove and 5 or 6 connectors to unplug.
Another reason that CURBERS love Hondas. If you had a schematic you
could take the whole cluster to a geek and get it repaired. There might
just be a cold solder joint or a loose connection.
