1992 Accord failing emissions test

I have a 1992 Accord EX 4 door auto with 184,000 miles on it.

It runs fine except for two problems. The latest is that I've failed
emissions with a CO% score of 1.97 it should be <.50 at idle and a
score of 2.07, it should be <.73 at 25 MPH. I passed both of the HC and
the NO tests. The car was warmed-up for an hour before the test.

This was my second attempt. I actually did better on the CO idle test
before I changed the spark plugs to the Bosch dual-tip platinums.

I had the O2 sensor replaced in February. After that repair, the green
"D" light on the transmision indicator started blinking which is my
other problem. The repair shop said that it was coincidental that the
blinking started after the O2 sensor was replaced. Since the car ran
fine, I just lived with it.

Is there a connection between the two?

Thanks in advance,

Jimbo

What are your ACTUAL numbers for ALL gases?

Was there any CO2 reading?

Just out of curiosity..  What kind of plugs did you replace with the
Bosch dual-tip Platinum plugs?

suspect weak spark or dribbling injector.  the latter is fixed with
injector cleaner, the former by servicing the ignition system.  stick to
ngk plugs.  spark plug leads get weak after time.  also, does your
accord have an ignition condenser?  if so, consider replacement.

I agree, however, the NGKs that Ipulled were in perfect shape at 26,000
miles except for the gap was huge. If the wires were suspect, wouldn't
there some signs of fouling.

I put in some Chevron Techtron and filled the tank with Chevron HiTest.

not necessarily - spark would have to be mostly absent for that.  weak
spark can be a strange beast to hunt.  leads can give problems at any
time.  i had a new set of oem leads on my civic, and they started giving
problems after only 20k miles.  plugs always looked fine.  these days,
i'm running magneor electrosport leads, and while i'm usually a big
advocate of honda oem componentry, there's no doubt the magnecor's
perform much better across the whole rev range.
