I was just trying to do a tune up on my civic, when going to replace
the spark plugs I found oil on two of them.  My brother said I probably
have to replace the valve gasket.  I looked up a valve gasket and they
are cheap, is replacing them really difficult?  Does anyone know how to
replace a gasket set?

It's more likely the spark plug tube gaskets or, further
down and much more laborious, some gaskets (O-rings) between
the cylinder head and camshaft holder. See
http://home.earthlink.net/~honda.lioness/id3.html for more
information.

This is pretty common on older Hondas.

P.S. Use only OEM gaskets for this job. Aftermarket have a
reputation for premature failure. www.slhondaparts.com and
other OEM honda parts dealers can get you the parts.

yes, the job is cheap and easy.  simply replace the "b" seals that sit
at the top of the spark plug tubes - you'll need to do the rocker cover
gasket at the same time.  problem solved!

no offense to elle, but the seals she's talking about never leak unless
you remove the cam for some reason - absolutely no point replacing them,
and it's a pita to do so!
