Hi
I just bought the 2007 civic LX A/T. I am thinking of the extended warranty
for 7years/130000 km for 1000$ Canadian. What do you guys think , are people
taking it. Basic warranty is 3 year for bumper to bumper and 5 years for
powertrain and tranny. I have had two Hondas before 93 Civic and 92 Accord
and never had a problem before 8 years, but I hear quality is not what it
used to be, excellent compared to everybody else but not the same comparted
to older gen Hondas. I am planning to keep this car for at least 8 years
I appreciate the help.
I believe you have a few months to exercise the extended warranty for the
same price

No one can judge the worth to you but you. Think of it like this:
buying the insurance is a gamble and the odds are stacked against you
-- that is why these policies are so profitable. But it's like a
casino, you could "win" if you need an expensive covered repair within
the policy period. And some cars will certainly need such a repair.
Have you considered just putting the $1,000 into a money market
account and using it as an auto repair fund?

some warranty companies will issue a refund if no claims are ever filed.
but I don't know details of this and I have never tried to get a refund.
perhaps others are more familiar with how this works.

consider the business proposition for the company offering the warranty:
if the car is likely to break down with something that'll cost you,
you'll lose money. so you'll only insure prospects that are likely
/not/ to fail. also, consider the language of the warranty. when i
read the fine print on the warranty my grandmother bought, it only
covered the stuff that never fails, like crankshaft, con rods, etc.
stuff that does fail like shocks or suspension bushings, ignition
systems, radiators, were excluded. of course, she didn't read this
before signing, and the sales droid told her it covered everything, but
from what i can see, extended warranties are /highly/ unlikely to be
worth it. bank the cash and save it instead.

How is the quality in general of this generation. Any mechanics out there
that have seen this car, please comment on their experiences
Thanks again

Some have had their glitches, but I own one and haven't had a problem
yet. I have never owned a honda previous to this but I was really
taken with this generation civic.

Only buy a Honda warranty. If it isn't from Honda, forget about it. Price
the Honda on line. Should be around $1000 US for zero deductible 120k 7 or
8 years (I forgot).
One advantage of buying is for resale. I instead of trading a car in you
sell it a few months before the transferable service agreement ends. You
will sell quickly at a high end price if the car is in good shape since you
can effectively provide a warranty with it.
