Alrite so I need to get the timing belt changed as well. Being an ignorant
person that I am I need to know what are the recommended things that should
be changed along with the belt:

1- Timing belt itself
2- Water pump
3- External drive belts
4- Engine seals?
5- Tensioner?

I have been quoted a price of $750 + tax by a honda dealer (dont know if it
includes the tensioner will call tomorrow to find out)...does that sound ok?

Thanks,
Wajahat

And I should have added that I have a 1997 accord ex (4 cyl) with 49k miles
on it.

i do /not/ recommend changing seals unless they're actually leaking [not
weeping - weepage is normal operation].  getting the old ones out,
without engine stripdown, while it can be done cleanly, often leads to
some degree of damage to the sealing surface of the metal.  once
damaged, future leakage is assured.  leave well alone unless actually
leaking [oil on your driveway].

at this mileage, you don't need the tensioner replaced either - it's not
time sensitive.

go ahead and replace the rest.  keep the old accessory belts and toss
them in the trunk as spares in the event of breakdown.  cheaper to pay
the tow dude to replace at the roadside than it is to get towed 200 miles.

In Canada it costs about 650-700 plus 14% tax at the honda dealerships
(kitchener waterloo) for a 1990 accord.
Search for timing belt on this newsgroup. There's a special retainer
they should use if they change seals on early 90's accords.

Isn't this kind of early for a TB change? Is there something unique to
Hondas that I am missing? I always have done mine between 60k and 80k
miles....

Check your owner's manuals.  They say X miles or Y years, whichever comes
first.  The philosophy seems to be that they wear with use and that the
rubber deteriorates with time too, or maybe that installed, the belt is
under tension.  The OP's car doesn't have that many miles, but it is ten
years old.  Better safe than sorry.
