Long trip

Hi all,

I have a 1991 Honda Accord with about 121,000 miles on it. I am moving from
Lafayette, IN to Baltimore, MD, and I am considering driving my car for this
long trip (about 650 miles). Could anyone please help me with the following
concerns?

1. I plan to have a mechanic inspect my car prior to this trip. Could anyone
please advise me on how to communicate with the mechanic? Specifically, will
I need to tell the mechanic what he should inspect? Or, can I assume that he
already has a list of things which need inspection before a long trip?

2. I like the car, and the last major repair that I had to do was the
replacement of sway bar links about a year ago. However, just by looking at
the age and mileage of my car, do any of you think that making this trip is
not a good idea even after inspection by a mechanic? I just want to know
since this is my first car, and I have never made a long trip in this car!

Thank you so much,
Fijoy

Just make sure all the liquids are 'topped up' and have him change the
MTF with Honda fluid, or do a drain-n-fill with Honda Z1 if it's an
automatic, especially if it's never been done. Do you use injector
cleaner seasonally? Now would be a good time.

650 miles isn't far.

650 miles is not a long trip.  I drove my Civic to LA and back for a total
of 2,500 miles a couple years ago.  Just make sure all the maintenance items
are up to date.

For communicating with the mechanic I would recommend using English or
Spanish.  ;^)

Have him check for ware all around.

Hoses, seals, belts, rust, contacts(sux if new battery dies cause you
got bad contacts) tire/rotor/caliper ware.  If it feels like the engine
is moving more when you put it into gear from N or P have him check the
engine mounts.

Enjoy the trip.
