Preston - 12 Aug 2007 20:34 GMT Is it OK to post a link to an on-topic eBay auction in this group? I don't want to upset the locals if that kind of thing is frowned upon.

Henri - 13 Aug 2007 01:01 GMT > Ebay doesn't like it and will close your auction if someone reports it. I reviewed Ebay rules concerning links and could not find any rule specifically prohibiting links to Usenet, but then Ebay does state their rules concerning links is not all inclusive. Moreover, I may have overlooked their rule, if one even exists, about linking to Usenet. Rest assured though, FArt being a *Top Poster*, will be sure to whine to Ebay just so he can prove his point.

Problem is, I have trouble imparting a predictable spin on the ball and tend to miss the catcher by ten feet while trying to pick the runner off who's trying for home.
This is why I do not play baseball any more.

From http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/newtoebay/usenet-policy.html "eBay users may not post on Usenet groups (Internet newsgroups) to advertise eBay or an eBay listing that is inappropriate or violates the Usenet board policy."
So it boils down to what the particular group's policy is. The only reference to a charter I could find for this group is http://www.faqs.org/ftp/usenet/news.announce.newgroups/rec/rec.autos.mak ers.honda which says it's just for discussing performance related modifications, & binaries are ok (in a non-binary group?!?), & commercial adverts are ok but private ones aren't. Which makes it one of the most bizarre charters I've seen, hence my original question. Are private 'for sale' & eBay ads really banned?

This group tends more to the OEM and stock stuff than to the "tuner" stuff.
> & binaries are ok (in a non-binary group?!?), Weird. I don't come here for binaries and don't want to see them. If a message size looks suspiciously large (like it might contain a binary), I usually won't click on it.

Nothing is really "banned" here. As somebody already pointed out, there's no moderator. Plus, this "Alexander J. Ivanoff" guy has never shown his face in here as long as I've ever been around.
Personally. I don't see anything wrong with eBay or other ads, so long as they say "eBay" or "FS" or "OT" or something like that so you can ignore them if you want.

You start with 1963 ("A" being on the right side of the plate), then count up for each year (1964 is "B"). You must leave out "I", "O", "Q", "X" and "Z". In 1983 you start over again with the "A" on the LEFT side of the plate, again leaving out those certain letters. Issuance was one per year until the late '90s, then they went to a completely different system. Clear as mud!
Have a jolly good time, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_car_number_plates#Year_letters

Better that than be your standard type of newbie who posts (in HTML no less) a question that was asked and answered ten times in the past week.
It's obvious from a reading of the charter that it seriously needs updating. It was written in 1996, when the opportunties for self-posting were very much limited compared to now.
I'll bet 99.9% of the denizens of this group did not know the group even had a charter to begin with. I certainly did not, and never thought of checking for one.

I'd suggest Henri is the newbie, as he doesn't appear to have learnt how to snip sigs. He did break the record for the shortest time it took someone to get in my killfile after joining a new group though, so fair play to him for that.

Oh, and he's using Outhouse Express, the very same version as the flamer "S", who I'm quite sure is his sock puppet. Outhouse dumps trailing spaces, so it is incapable of correctly identifying sigs and stripping them properly.

Art - 14 Aug 2007 04:38 GMT I thought I would actually quote what the faq states: "1. Commercial advertizing is encouraged only if related to Honda/Acura performance items. 2. Private "for sale" or "wanted to buy" postings are not welcome. 3. Posting of binaries, such as pictures modified Honda/Acura automobiles, is invited. 4. Postings about non-Honda/Acura performance issues, parts or vendors are not welcome."
The ebay ad in question is obviously inappropriate.
If everyone posted inappropriate ebay ads to newsgroups, the groups would become completely useless.

CHARTER: rec.autos.makers.honda
- Commercial advertising is discouraged. Pointers to finger addresses or web pages are acceptable if related to Honda specific items or services. - Private "for sale" or "wanted to buy" postings are not welcome. - Binary file postings are not appropriate in this newsgroup. - Article subject lines should contain one of two prefixes; A (Acura related) or H (Honda related) - Discussion will be limited to automobiles manufactured by Honda regardless of which name plate they wear in the U.S. (ie. Acura).
END CHARTER.
