The transmission on my 2000 honda odyssey will be replaced (under the
Honda recall). The wonderful dealer also suggested the following
preventative repairs:
replace front engine mounts
replace stabilizer bars
There's nothing wrong with them, but they say the transmission repair
will save time in replacing those parts. Seems fishy to me. The car
has 99K miles, and I only put about 3K a year on it as it is now the
second car in the house.
thanks,
John

Are you sure you're describing the suggested work properly?
And how do you know there's "nothing wrong" with the parts?
Replacing the front engine mount at the same time is a good idea, if it's
damaged. They have to remove part of it anyway to remove the transmission,
so there's almost no extra labor.
The stabilizer bars should never need to be replaced unless they're bent or
defective, but the /bushings/ can wear out.

The motor mounts on the Odyssey are fluid filled and often go bad. As for
the stabilizer bar I have seen no reports of anyone ever having a problem
with them. Search www.odyclub.com for info.
