When you get your accord coupe to the honda place in ILL for
a regular oil change, what kind of oil can you expect to get?
Will it be a mineral or synthetic oil? 5W20? Something else?

Ask them. That's the ONLY way you'll know.

They can use anything they want. Any dealership in North America can use
anything from all-synthetic Mobil-1 to Goat Brand from China (with
melamine).

Honda dealerships are INDEPENDENT COMPANIES that have leased Honda
franchises. They are NOT part of the Honda Motor Company or any of its
regional subsidiaries.

I use Mobil 1 , 5w30 in my `02 Accord-4 ...I buy the oil at
Walmart(Niagara Falls NY) for US. $19.+ change + tax(on sale for 4or 5
US qt container) and take it back to Canada and have my T- dealer
change my oil and he supplies the filter for $5.99 .

This is Mobil gray-cap .

I use Mobil yellow cap in the winter because of more severe driving
conditions .(15,000 mile oil)

It sells for around $27.00 at Walmart

Total price for filter and labour about $20.00 Canadian .From the T-
dealer.

I would do it myself as I have done for over 55 years but am getting
too old now to get under a car because of physical infirmities.

So the $20.00 is well worth it for me to have it done now ,and I trust
this particular dealer.

Reading from my bill from Honda dealership,
I got charged as follows in Illinois:

Express lube                     -                     $11.18
15400-PLM-A02 Filter    -                        $6.72
94109-14000 Washer    -                        $0.28
Mobil1 SYN5W20SYN0W30  $7.56x5  $37.80
Waste disposal  fee        -                        $0.56

I am little surprised this 4-cyl accord uses whole 5 quarts of oil...
My 1995 camry uses only 3 1/2 quarts.

You should open your owner's manual every once and while and see what
information you can find in there. It will tell you how much oil
should be added. I know that the 98-02 Accord take 4 1/2 quarts. Check
the dipstick and see if they overfilled it.

You are correct - manual states 4.4 US quarts or 4.2 liters for my 4-cyl engine.
I thought it is less than that, so it is not such a big rip off :-)

Still - I was charged for full 5 quarts, which is kind of not fair: they use bulk
oil from a big barrel. It is not like they had to crack a quart bottle just for me.
