Have been looking at purchasing either a new Accord or Camry. A friend has
an '05 Accord and insists that he gets 37mpg on the highway all the time.
Is this really what they get, or a bunch of B.S. ? ? If it is true, the
Accord outdoes the Camry by a WIDE margin.
Sure would appreciate any feedback.
Thx

Maybe with the 4cyl. My '98 with the V6 gets 29-31 on the highway, depending
on speed(75-65mph).

I suppose it's possible with a 4-cylinder and a stick shift. Maybe
even with an automatic. We regularly get 34 mpg on a trip with our
2003 Accord V-6. That's driving up to 80 mph, but typically between
70 and 75.

Pretty hard to believe, except maybe going downhill at 50 mph. I think you
could reasonably expect 30 to 33 at a steady 70 or so with the A/C off, and
not too many hills.

I had a 2000 Accord 4 cylinder manual transmission car, and it got 35mpg
on the highway in the summer (AC on) going through the mountains.
I'd say, it's quite possible.

I have received 35mpg highway on an 06 I4 Accord coupe with an auto. Air
off. Typically run around 75. I suppose if you cut your speed 37 is
possible.

I have a new 07 Accord V6 with only 1100 miles on it. Took it on a 200 mile
trip last week-- mostly on the interstate-- and got 31 mpg with the AC on.
Speed was mostly between 60 and 70, no passengers.

So 37 with a 4 banger and manual transmission is easily accomplished.

My wife gets a steady 36 mpg when she is commuting (long distance, all
highway; she generally doesn't exceed 65 mph) in our '07 4-cyl MT
Accord.

I have an '05 Accord MT and the best I've been able to do was 34mpg mostly
highway, almost 35mpg. This is with the a/c on most of the way and into New
York City (where traffic is bad). Speed was probably around 65mph - 85mph.
I think the automatic actually gets slightly better gas mileage than the
manual during highway driving. Hitting 37mpg is probably very optimistic
but probably possible depending on conditions.

IMO, if he keeps it under 65, it may well be possible.
(My 92 Accord gets ~32 as a daily driver, and an honest ~35+ on long
relaxed road trips.)

Bro-in-law regularly gets over 900kms (560mi) on a 65L (17ga) tank. When he
fills he only gets about 15 gallons in.
That equals around 37MPG.
2001 accord I4 MT.

I drive an '06 Accord EX-V6 6MT with 9000 miles. I get about 32mpg with
all highway driving at around 80mph, A/C on, 3 passengers (2 kids and one
adult) and a full trunk.
