I assume from your note that you are completely without any knowledge
about car repair. No one is going to spend the time to answer your
specific questions since it is clear you have done no research on your
own. This group has a large amount of information that will help you
answer the questions you are asking. Go back in this group and read.
If you are making a fair attempt at a particular problem then ask. If
this kind of work  does not interest you, then take your car to the
dealer.

A good start for routine maintenance:

Sockets, short: 6mm, 8 mm, 10 mm (long too), 12 mm (long
too), 14 mm (long too), 19 mm (long only; for rotating
tires).

Wrenches (combination = box and open end): 10, 12, and 14 mm

Screwdriver: Get one of those with five or so changeable
heads (phillips head and slot head).

Hydraulic jack: Check your car's weight and buy an
inexpensive one. Do not use the scissors jack in the trunk
of the car. It's not designed for routine use; it's
emergency use only.

Jack stands, one pair.

Car ramps: Buy the hard plastic ones. I use these for oil
changes. If your budget is really tight, you can use the
jack stands instead.

For the best prices and decent enough quality, I would buy
all the above at either Pep Boys or Harbor Freight. Many
complain about the quality of the tools at these places, but
I have not had problems with the tools for the work I do.

Buy a high quality 3/8-inch drive ratchet wrench from say
Home Depot or Sears. I do not recommend Pep Boys or Harbor
Freight for this.

Again, just a start.

For your tuneup, buy only OEM parts. These pay for
themselves in the case of ignition parts.

for my 91 Civic. Many here do not like Chilton's; yet Much
of the Chilton's duplicates the Factory Service Manual. I do
not like Haynes manuals at all.
