alfred - 05 Nov 2007 23:27 GMT Hi,
I went to look at Accords at a dealer yesterday. Looks like they can offer me a fairly good deal. I would be trading in my 3 year old car for a 2008 EX-L Sedan auto. Then put down $1,500.00 I noticed a couple of things. The Accords no longer have LED tail lights, and the back seat area is much roomier. The monthly payment with everything including tax would be $374.00/mo. The EX sedan would be $339.00 with the same terms. 36 month 12k mi/yr.
I also found that the insurance is less than my current car, and the payment would be 50.00 more a month than I pay now on a much lower model thats 3 years old. The gas usage difference would end up costing me only $3.00 more per week than a civic ex.
I was originally looking at the coupes but they told me that they are in smaller supply and somehow the payments wouldnt work as well into this. I'm ready to take them up on it in a few days.
Any thoughts on this deal?
Thanks,

jazu - 06 Nov 2007 07:51 GMT I'd rather go with V6

Dick - 07 Nov 2007 04:28 GMT >>I'd rather go with V6 >> >See if you think the same when gas hits $4 a gallon. The V-6 is EPA rated at 19/29. The I-4 is EPA rated at 21/31. Do you really think that 2 mpg difference is going to break the bank? Even at $4 per gallon? That amounts to $4.40 on a 500 mile trip. If so, I would go for a Civic or a Prius. I would much rather have the V-6 for highway travel in an Accord. Our '03 V-6 regularly gives us 34 mpg on the road.

alfred - 08 Nov 2007 04:27 GMT Well you have a point there but I cannot afford to get the exl and the v6 so if given a choice, i'd rather have the exl than just the v6 by it self. I keep my ac on all the time even with the heat, do 50% city driving and tend to drive 65-70mph so my mpg is probably a little lower than yours is. With my 2005 I4 accord I average combined mpg of 23-24 mpg. I dont think that the gas will go up to 4 dollars a gallon, but it will be up there.

The I4, for example, does not require a belt change since it has a chain.
alfred - 10 Nov 2007 14:28 GMT Yes I heard that the I4 has the timing chain, but I thought that belt or chain, they all had to be changed at around 120,000 miles. My serpentine belt in my 2005 Accord I4 ex went at about 30k miles.

The new Honda Accord can take $40 easy on empty tank here in NYC...holy krist thats crazy.
I got the 4 cyl. 190 hp one for the gas milage as well...

Gas MPG is around 25 mpg for all general combined driving provided you dont rev it too much. Here in RI a full tank will cost $56.42, for regular unleaded so thats not too good. I would assume the 268 HP V6 would use more gas though.

Now that your source has leaked this Honda fraud, and you made it public, all of our insurance rates might get raised.

Polfus - 05 Dec 2007 05:44 GMT > Actually its 200 HP, Honda rated it at 190 HP from what I was told in > order to give lower insurance ratings. I believe its 190@ 7000rpm just like it says. I read in Motor Trend ( Oct 2007 ) where *they* reported it at "...200 horsepower at 7000 and 170 pound feet at 4500 ( EX versions )" ( pg.66 ). However, the 2008 USA Honda Accord brochure says 190hp @ 7000 and 162 pound feet at 4400. Motor Trend didn't put it on the dyno, I'm sure...so I always wondered if its 190 or 200...the way it feels to me is like its 190 or so.
Which is still *very* powerful, man....my older 5 speed manual '90 Accord coupe had 130 hp and 145 pound feet, and I could make myself sink back in the seat easy with that puppy. It was a blast, and still is very quick off theline ( drove it recently when I went to my buddy's with my new one..he bought my other one in 2001 ). So the new Accord at 190-200hp and 165-170 pound feet is *NICE*, especially considering its a small in-line 4 cyl.!!! Viva Honda racing, my man...it trickles down to the consumer eventually :)
The point here?
Its that 190 hp is FINE with me...especially since it sure feels like a kicker when its rpms kick in. And that I will take the advantage of insurance ratings as a plus.
But remember its also classified as a full size sedan now, so that costs more money for insurance. Furthermore, Honda has included *many* features that *lower* our insurance costs, which is also a plus that I'm glad to have available...4 total safety features that save us money in insurance. Dropped my insurance $165 every 6 months. Awesome.
I wish I had a manual, but in NYC area, I need an auto because in and out of 1st/2nd gear constantly in traffic is really a pain in the a...and I am starting to appreciate the SMOOTH delivery of the engine's power-line...its surely different than a manual's ability if you are able to use the gears, but its a nice one regardless of the fact its an automatic.
Then again..I think the new engine and the way its set up requires a little rethinking on our part as well... It sure is a different beast. Some Toyota Camerys are very powerful, and man they are smooth when you put your foot in it...but thats a whole other feel as well.
The way the Honda Accord feels....thats something that no other car manufacturer on the planet has...that really ..heck..I don't know how to describe it.

> I would assume the 268 HP V6 would use more gas though. It does...21/31 for the 4cyl. in both auto and 5 speed manual vs. 19/29 for the V6 in the sedan, in automatic option only.
In the V6 Coupe, its 5 speed automatic gets 19/28, but the *6* speed manual gets 17/25.
So yeah...

Why is that..any idea?
Peace, Polfus
[ Downside...your way, have to fill it up twice as often :) ]
