I have a 1993 Honda Accord Wagon EX that had it's transmission burned out.
It can still go in reverse but cannot move forward.  Also per the mechanic
there is a "clunk" sound when the engine is started and he states there is a
problem with the rod and that the engine needs to be rebuilt in order to fix
this.  He mentioned something about a piston issue.

Oh by the way, the reason why this damage occurred is because my father got
stuck in the snow and tried to get out and overkilled the engine.  Car was
previously in good condition with 90,000mileage

My question is whether it would be worth fixing.  How much would work like
this cost ideally?  Thanks!

if the body is in good shape, there is nothing stopping you from getting a
good engine and trannie from a wrecker somewhere.  Bet you could get the
setup for $1200 or so.  Install would be another 700-800.

You could also try the route of a JDM engine, people on this group have
reported success and very low prices.

Don't bother with a rebuild.  You'll be into it for $3000 before you know it,
and rebuilt engines usually don't last long due to contaminants that get in
while the heads are off.

get a low mileage japanese used transmission and replace - plenty of
online importers if you google "jdm honda engine".  /way/ cheaper than
domestic rebuild.
