I'm in Dekalb Il 60115 and I want to have this timing belt & water
pump thing done as well as my cold start problem.

What the best way to look for independent honda mech's? Phone books
are kind of cryptic, they all say they are certified.  Seems dealer
machanics will  charge me more than I paid for the car.  Anyone in
this area know of good mechanics or how to find one?

Have you checked with AAA or the BBB in your area?
http://www.aaa.com, http://www.bbb.ccom

Note that going with a shop recommended by one of these organizations
doesn't guarantee that you won't have problems, but it may help to eliminate
some of the more questionable shops.
