Looking for those who have replaced the starter themselves on a fourth
generation, 91 Civic. I have limited tools, but the basics. I'm wondering
1. if I would need a jack, or if I can replace from the hood.
2. Where is the starter??
3. What procedure you used.
When I left the car for vacation, it was fine. When I got back in it a week
later, it made this odd grinding or scraping noise, but didn't turn the
engine. Sounds very similar to others description of a motor grinding but
not engaging.
If anyone has any help, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Brock

www.autozone.com . Look for pointers to the FREE repair guides. They're there
and specific to the 91 Civic. (It prompts for car info so you get the correct
guide.)
Look for diagnosis hints, first, though.
My 91 Civic's starter seems fine. Not sure if I'd be going in from the top or
bottom. I think the top, for starters, from when I last looked at the starter's
location. (between and below the level of the battery and the car's right side
of the engine).
