Which Acura models are you referring to here?

A TL 3.2 S - the dealer said there was something about overheating
affecting the second gear - ended up replacing the whole transmission.
Still under warranty but was curious if this was a common thing.

Had my 2001 TL in for the recall a few weeks ago.  They check
the trans and added some kind of oil jet to cool the 2nd gear.  Dealer
said they have had to replace only two and they were on very
high milage cars.  It's a large dealer in San Diego so I suspect two
is a very small percentage.

This is WIDELY known.  Honda put out a press release a few months ago
about this; they said this was a hugely expensive recall, something like
$370 million.

Yours is the same transmission used in the Odyssey as well.  odyclub.com
has oodles of information on the recall.
