ther was a bulletin on 98 civics for check engine lights. the main
engine harness would rub raw on the intake support bracket at the back
of  the engine under the intake. look there.

I have a 98 Civic SI Coupe and one day the "Check Engine" light came on. I
called the dealer and the service guy I spoke too asked me to check the
gazoline cap... To see if it was tightened enough... Well it was not! THAT
was the problem!
Have you ever noticed that on the cap it says" If not tightened 3 clicks
Check Engine Light may come on"?

Hope this helps!

A fine service provider.  There are some who would charge you $80 or
more for that information.

48 is usually an o2 sensor code in the end.  what's the real code?
the obd2 code. it should be on your reciepts from having it read.  be
a PXXXX  number.
the honda codes aren't that much help. give me the obd2 code and i
can likely help.  go to autozone, the read them for free.

Okay I have a 97 EX with the VTEC DOHC B16 engine in it, I had the same
problem. All you gotta do is put the highest octane of gas in your tank,
either that or put an octane booster in with every tank. That makes it go
away. Fully tuned civics DO NOT like regular gas, u just put an a.s load of
money in to your car with the performance upgrades, now u gotta put good gas
in it everytime u fill up. So try that out.
