How many people got the auto transmission recall? Sounds pretty serious - like the tranny will seize in some cases, causing loss of control. No, it's not major at all. The oil injector kit simply routes an external oil line back to the oil fill hole that normall has a bolt on it. Right underneath that hole is a gear which isn't being cooled properly with oil; now, oil will be squirting on that gear as part of the normal oil circulation. The entire inspection of the gear (to make sure it isn't already heat damaged) and installation of the oil jet kit takes no more than an hour, on a bad day. It is a major recall, though; Honda is spending something like $360 million on this. If the gear inspection (done by camera) shows heat damage, they send the photos back to Honda. Honda determines whether to send the dealer an oil jet kit (the gear is OK) or a transmission (the gear isn't OK). The dealer tech makes a gross judgment, based on photos that Honda supplies; if there's a question, the dealership doesn't make the determination. Honda does. After the nonsense with the '98-'02 Accord tranny's they STILL can't get it right. Makes you wonder... > > How many people got the auto transmission recall? There is no waiting for parts. Dealers have (or should have) the kits on hand. Honda sent out an initial allocation to each dealer depending on their volume of sales and then sends an additional kit each time a warranty claim is filed for each one a dealer does. > > How many people got the auto transmission recall? There is no waiting for > parts. The process is that if the camera inspection shows even the slightest bit of damage, the local tech passes the buck on to Honda. He emails the photos to Honda, who makes the decision on what to send: either an oil jet kit or a transmission. If the local tech can see that the transmission matches Honda's reference photo for "no damage whatsoever," the tech simply puts the oil jet kit in right then and there. But any damage at all means a wait for Honda to decide what to do, and Honda sends the part it thinks is needed to make the repair--be it the jet kit or a new tranny. Honda no good now,dont buy. |
