1999 Accord sporadic starting problem

I have a 1999 4 cylinder Accord coupe. Alomst a year ago, I went to start
the car, and it wouldn't start. The starter would crank, the engine would
turn over, but not fire up. The fuel pump did not prime before attemting
to start. I waited about 30 minutes, and the car started right up. Since
then, the problem has shown up about 10 more times, with no pattern. I can
usually get the car to start in about a minute after the initial no-start
by quiclky cranking, pausing, cranking, pausing, etc until the car fires.
The only other anomly is that every once and a while, the car starts fine,
then after about 10 seconds, it sputters and dies. I then get the same
problem. It's very frustrating, because this has happened only 11 times in
the past year or so. I've checked fuses, it happens in warm and cold
weather....any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a main relay problem.

You ought to include this URL in your Main relay data;
http://www.markl.f9.co.uk/howto/electrical/main-relay/main-relay.htm

They have a good page on how to find and fix the relay.

Thanks for the help everyone. I'm getting a new main relay and will post
the results after it's been in for a while.

Problem Solved. It's been a year since I replaced the main relay, and the
starting problem has vanished. Thanks for solution - posting here so
others will see it.
