Check engine light (EVAP system)

A few weeks ago, my check engine light came on, and I figured out which
code it was, and it was the code that says there is something wrong
with the EVAP system.  The dealer said it could be a loose gas cap, or
a leak somewhere.  The light went off after a week or so, so I thought
it was fixed.
(See

).

Well this morning the light came back on.  I haven't gotten any gas
since this problem originally began, so it's not like my gas cap
loosened itself.  Does this mean I have an expensive problem I need
fixed?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The gas cap can loosen by itself.  We had the same problem in our 2000
Odyssey.  Turned out to be the gasoline tank filler neck.

If it's got tits, tires, tubes, or transistors,  it's trouble.

Interesting... So they just replaced the cap or the filler neck?
Remember how expensive it was?  (I'm a teacher, so I need to see if I
shoud wait until payday to have the dealer look at it).

We tried replacing the cap but that didn't work.  They finally had to drop
the gas tank and put on a new filler neck.  I'm not sure of the cost but it
wasn't cheap.  Fortunately, I had bought an extended warranty ($50
deductible) so I only paid $50.

If it's an oddy and they told you they dropped the tank, they lied.
I've done a lot of those and never dropped the tank

Gee.  I guess I'll demand my money back.

When I went to fill up my tank today, the gas pump kept automatically
shutting off.  I coaxed it into at least giving my half of a tank, but
it must've shut off a dozen times.  Is this connected?

You bet it is.  You probably splashed gasoline into the EVAP system.  I quit
topping off a long time ago.  I usually set the pump handle for the slowest
pump speed and let it click off.

So how do I remedy this?  I virtually never top off, but I think I did
a few days before the light first came on, just because gas was so
cheap (I'll do anything to save a few fractions of a penny).

Have you looked at the gas cap to see if the seal is broken or made sure it
is tight? Book says three clicks but 6-10 is better.
