The manual in my 01 civic says to hold the trip odo button in when you turn
the key to on, but the accord has no such instruction in the manual.

Is there a way to do this?

Hmmmmm. Try holding the 'trip' button, and turn the key to the 'on'
position. Wait about ten seconds until the indicator stops flashing.

Might work, can't hurt.
