Is the intake tract OEM, or has it been replaced by something aftermarket?
There is no source of oil from your daughter's car that could possibly
enter an OEM air intake and foul the bottom of the air filter. It's
possible someone ahead of her had a a coolant or oil leak, and those vapors
got sucked up by her intake.

The entire car is OEM.
Thanks for the responses. I was a bit worried since the car seems to be
using about a quart of oil every 3,000 miles or so but I cannot find a
leak on the ground. It has 105,000 miles so maybe it is due, but I have
2 other cars with 50,000 more miles and they have never leaked.

oil consumption is a whole different game. since it's a subject that
comes up here regularly, google this group for some outline answers,
then come back with further questions.
