I have a 1992 Honda Accord EX made in USA with a VIN code starting with
1HG. I need to replace the front brake calipers. The PEP boys store
lists two types, one for use with VIN code 1HG USA (like mine) and the
other for VIN code JHM made in Japan. So obviously I asked for the USA
version. Problem is these calipers are not the same as the ones on my
car. The new USA version calipers have pins that are long bolts that
thread directly into the caliper ears. The calipers on my car have
pins that have a slot and a small bolt threads into the the pin. I
assume somehow my car has the Japan version calipers even though it was
made in the US.
Is this correct? Is that (the caliper pin construction) what is the
difference between the two versions? Is that the only difference?
And the new calipers do not come with caliper brackets, so I need to
use the existing caliper brackets that are already on the car.
So which version caliper should I get USA or Japan?
Are the two versions of calipers interchangable with the caliper
brackets on my car?
Also are the brake pads the same for the two versions of calipers?
And a final question, the new calipers come with two copper washers for
each side for the hydrolic banjo fitting but I'm pretty sure there is
only one copper washer on my existing fittings. What is the proper
usage of the copper washers on the banjo fittings? Two one each or only
one?
thanks

Banjo fittings normally have copper washers on both sides of the
fitting, not just one.

get the version that is the same style you are removing. Because there are two listings
indicates there are differences - how many, of what sort, hardly matters to us laymen.
You willl also need to include the original for core exchange and would expect they would have
to be the same type as those you are purchasing.

not likely
>Also are the brake pads the same for the two versions of calipers?
I believe so.

the copper washers are used to create a proper seal - one is required on each side to ensure
this.
