the dealer says I need a new compressor at 99k miles.  He said it is leaking
oil and freon all over the clutch, pulley and belt - when I got home, I
installed a 2 part sealer - one for metal, one for rubber and 2 cans of
freon and I am having very good a/c.  on a 90 degree day, it is putting out
60 degree air from the duct.  I never found any oil on the belt, pulley,
clutch, etc. - is this normal?  I never had problems with the dealer
before - they charged $90 for the inspection, and quoted me $1057 for the
compressor, $285 to install.  I know I can get a compressor from the junk
yard fro $65 with a warrantty, but this one seems fine so far since the 2
part stop leak kit was installed by me and my friend.  Then they suggested
installing the timing belt and water pump for $850 now instead of waiting to
105k miles.  They wouldn't give me a loaner while we waited for the parts
2-3 days either.  I just $2200 is not enough business to them.

The $850 for timing belt and water pump is probably what you would pay in my
experience.  Loaners typically are only available under warranty not routine
repair and servicing unless you have a Lexus.  Then you will pay through the
nose for the servicing.  I have 98 Accord we use as spare car with around
117k miles and have only had to service the a/c once.  But, you get around
100k on anything and parts failure can occur.  Perhaps the compressor on the
Pilot is a weak point or perhaps you are unlucky.  I would say stick with
what you have now and look for an independent mechanic for another
opinion/cost.
