Hi,
Last week I went to Buena Park Honda in CA for an oil change and they
found nothing wrong with my car (in the free 21 pt inspection). Today I
went to Kaiser Honda in Los Angeles for a transmission fluid flush
(fluid color was very brown). I have a 2001 Honda Accord EX V6 with
82000 that I just drove cross-country. After service, Kaiser told me my
front engine motor mount was broken and needed replacement at $350. Is
there a way for me to tell if the mount is broken? aka, if the dealer
is really telling the truth?
please let me know
thanks

uhhhhh... Not that I'm against home repair, ..
But fixing a broke motor mount with JB weld?
Thats kind of mickey mouse in my book..
But to each his own I guess.
I think I would break down and get a new one.

It sorta depends on what part of the mount is "broke" or exactly what
mount it might be.
On my '83 Civic, the torque mounts all had bad bushings. I got some
silicone black stuff in a tube that stiffens up on curing and so far I
have no evidence of engine "rock." Time will tell but I'll betcha it is
good for a few years. Meanwhile, I have two on the bench that I'll
apply the same treatment to and when the time comes...

Yeah... normally it is the rubber that shears.

Well, apparently the engine rocks. Mechanic sat in the car and started
the car, then revved. Engine really tilted...dang...350$ right there.
thanks for your replies!

$ 350 for an engine mount seems steep. I had my rear mount replaced on my
1998 Accord for $170 parts and labor from my local guy not the dealer. This
is a NYC price mind you..."rip off city".! The part runs around $65 on
line. Symptoms include more engine vibration transmitted to interior
occupants, visible rocking of the engine upon starting or accelerating, and
possibly a knock from the exhaust when starting the car cold.

Was yours a V6? I had a Nissan with a V6 (although not transverse mounted)
and changing the mounts on that almost made me cry. Come to think of it,
everything on it almost made me cry. Maybe I was becoming an almost-crybaby.
