WHAT? You mean these cars come with manuals? What will they think of next!?
If the '04 EX uses the same key as breeze's '03, there is a cross-head screw
on the back, and a small slot in which to insert a screwdriver to pop open
the back. To be sure, I got out my manual and that is the, uh, case. Look in
the manual's index for "Remote Transmitter," not "key!" Gosh, only a moron
would look in the index for "key" when he/she wants to replace its
battery.... Reminds me of a catalog that had a coat rack indexed not as
"coat rack," but as "costumer."

AH! The manual! Should have seen that one coming. Anyone had to
reprogram one of these buggers?

No, never. I just buy a new car when that happens to avoid this
problem... only kidding.

The battery number is CR1616. Each transmitter uses
one battery.
How to program the remotes:
Entering the programming mode cancels all learned
transmitter codes, so none of the previously
programmed transmitters will work. You must
reprogram all of the transmitters once you are in the
programming mode.
. You must complete steps 1-6 within 4 seconds of
the previous step to keep the system from exiting the
programming mode.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Press the "Lock" or "Unlock" button on one of the
transmitters. (An unprogrammed transmitter can be
used for this step.)
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
4. Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3 two more times using the
same transmitter used in step 2.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
6. Press the "Lock" or "Unlock" button on the same
transmitter. Make sure the power door locks cycle
to confirm that the system is in programming mode.
7. Within 10 seconds, press the "Lock" or "Unlock"
button on each transmitter. Make sure the power
door locks cycle after you press each transmitter
button to confirm that the system accepted the
transmitter's code.
8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) to exit the
programming mode.

But just replacing the battery doesn't require reprogramming, does it? (The
manual doesn't say anything about needing to.)

It would be very unusual if it did. Certainly unlike every other car we
have ever owned.

That's why I brought it up. I don't think people should be pressed into
abject fear every time they need to replace the battery in the remote.
