'88 4WD wagon -- "disengage"?

I just purchased a 1988 4WD 5-door 6-speed wagon with 1.6L to use as a
utility/camping vehicle, and noticed on the operator's visor a caution to
"disengage" the "Real-Time" 4WD if one end of the vehicle is raised for any
service that requires rotating the wheels, yet I can find no such control to
engage or disengage the 4WD on demand.

Can someone tell me how to observe this caution please?

Perhaps you could tell us what make the vehicle is.

If it's got tits, tires, tubes, or transistors,  it's trouble.

for many 4wd's, "disengage" means "unbolt" and this is done before
towing.  not certain about this vehicle though - is there a problem that
you're trying to fix?

this is a fine vehicle btw.  highly utilitarian.

Thank you, that explains the lack of an "on demand" control to place the
vehicle in 2-or-4WD. I have no real problem with the vehicle. I'm just
trying to understand all aspects of it, and make sense of the warning on the
operator's visor.

Agreed. It can easily hold two mountain bikes and assorted equipment in the
back, a canoe on the roof, and a babe in the other seat. Now all I have to
do is find the babe somewhere.

Around here, the women in the bar would sink the canoe, assuming they could
even climb into it.

you'll have to go hippie or euro to get a babe to join you in an 88
civic!  trust me on that one.

Hippie or euro is fine by me, as long as they can enthusiastically f.ck.

The driveshaft to the rear wheels has to be disconnected.

If you want more answers look for the civic wagon mailing list.
