Hi, I have a 2004 Hyundai Elantra GT 5sp that I bought in March of
2004 (car was built October 2003) with about 24,000 miles on it.
Recently the car has been giving me alot of problems. Heres a list of
everything Iv had go wrong since March.

First thing was the vent slider on the center console fell off, minor
thing no biggy. Next was a wiggly drivers seat. The Dealer replaced
the seat track without fuss about 3 months ago. Its wiggly again.

The Check Engine light kept coming on, code was something to do with
the canister close valve, so they replaced it, they replaced it 2 more
times within a month also. It finally turned out to be a faulty DPS
sensor (Distributor Position Sensor I beleive.) The engine would ping
when the light was on also..  Every now and then the check engine
light still comes on, but goes out about 20 secs later (this is while
driving). No code was found.

Now this week i noticed that my car seemed to almost stall when i gave
it gas on the highway to pass someone.. the next day i noticed that
the clutch was slipping every now and then. Its snowy now so I can?t
tell. But i have an appointment Tuesday so I hope they can figure out
what is wrong. The car only has 24K miles and my old hyundai?s have
had well over 100,000 and i never needed to replace a clutch.  I?ve
also noticed that some gears i shift into i notice a grinding.

Iv had a few occurrances which happended only in the morning on the
first "stop" of the car. My brake pedel went to the floor and did
not stop the car, I had to use the E-Brake untill all of a suddon the
front brakes would finally engage. I mentioned it to the dealer but
they couldnt reproduce it..

When the dealer had to fix the aux. power outlet because circut city
forgot to plug it back in when they installed my amp, i noticed that
the red area on the tempature control was now rippped (its a plastic
backing where it turns blue (cool) to red (warm) and it cracked and
when the lights are on it shows through as white instead of red.....

I love Hyundai?s, iv had a couple Excels, a 98 Accent a 00 Elantra and
this one the 04, and I plan on going back to Hyundai again. But this
Elantra I have has been in the shop multiple times 3 or 4 times for
the CCV and DPS sensor, and now the clutch.. Oh the seat track
wigglings. there?s other quirks with the car, but the ones mentioned
here are really bothering me.

I feel like i got a lemon Hyundai because iv never had trouble with my
past Hyundais... I don?t know what I am going to do or whats going to
happen with the car. I no longer have confidence in this car and I?d
be happy with them giving me the book value of the car and I?d put it
to another Hyundai. I doubt i?d qualify for the Lemon Law.. and I
doubt Hyundai would give me a new one.

Well I also have a 2004 Elantra GT..  12000 km on it... and the clutch,
throughout bearing (which was bent and beleived to be the cause of the other
problems) , pressure plate and main bearings in the transmission all
replaced.. good thing for the warranty..;-)

While I'm all for buying used cars (my EGT was the first new-off-the-lot
car I've bought in 20 years), it sounds like your Elantra may have been
abused. Mine's been fine for 14K miles.

nope.. wasnt abuse as I am the orignal owner.. it  should have only 10,000
miles, my mistake typo...
